A WONK'S VIEW OF PHARMACOTHERAPY FOR THE DENTAL PROFESSIONAL

This program will explore prescribing opioids for dental patients, including the use of the Nebraska prescription drug monitoring program (PDMP); what the CDC guidelines really say; and use of the pharmacist in the process. Nebraska and Federal statutes will be presented when appropriate.

At the completion of this program, the alert attendee should be able to:

1. Describe how to access the Nebraska PDMP
2. Discuss current guidelines for treating dental pain
3. Prescribe opioids
4. Consult with a pharmacist regarding pain management and opioid prescribing
